Afaik already signed for wire. Just because the article says highest ever. From the Giants it might still be 100k less than other teams might pay.

Whether this is true or not, the fact that the rumour is out there could be a canny move for the Giants. It shows intent and the fact that we are linked with one of the top players in the world can only be a positive.
Other players of this standard might just start to sit up and take notice

Barba couldn't be bothered once he had a contract to go back to the NRL. He came to the UK following a misdemeanor, and Widdop doesn't carry such baggage. |

Downside, we lose out on a big name player who is very high quality
Upside, we haven't blown a massive chunk of cap money on a 31 year old halfback who's best years will be done by the time he gets here.
