After stunning victories for both sides last week, the two sides at the bottom of the table had the four pointer to end all four pointers, a game which would lift one of the sides into tenth place, and more importantly leave the loser anchored at the base of the table.

This was a truly crucial game for both sides, it could be the difference between survival and relegation, the winner having something to kick on from, the loser left reeling from the loss.

Ben Hellewell replaced Matt Fleming for Danny Ward’s home side as they looked to make it three wins on the bounce, while KR coach Tony Smith was without Mitch Garbutt and gave debuts to loan signings Daniel Murray, Harvey Livett and Luis Johnson.

London kicked the first points of the game  after being awarded a twenty metre penalty after Adam Quinlan tackle on the kick receiver while he was airborne. Kieran Dixon kicked the goal for a 2-0 lead.

After twenty-five minutes of deadlock Morgan Smith got the first four-pointer of the game as he picked up a Dixon grubber from the wing infield, colecting ten metres out and going over without a KR hand on him.  Dixon was unable to add the extras, the Broncos a precarious 6-0 ahead.

Dixon kicked another two pointer after a high tackle by KR to give the home side an 8-0 advantage after thirty-two minutes, the Broncos edging their way clear.

Five minutes before the interval KR worked the ball down the field with a electrifying set of six and on the last tackle Weller Hauraki caught and grounded a Tommy Lee grubber under the sticks giving Ryan Shaw a simple conversion to reduce the Broncos lead to just two points at the interval.

It took just two minutes for Hull KR to take the lead thanks to a flowing downfield break which Adam Quinlan was on hand to complete taking an inside pass after being involved earlier in the move. Ryan Shaw converted brilliantly for a 12-8 lead.

Two minutes later Chris Atkin benefitted as Daniel Murray broke the London line with ease to go over under the sticks. Shaw added the goal for an 18-8 lead, the Broncos blown away in a five minute purple patch.

On fifty-two the Broncos struck straight back with Alex Walker grounding a Morgan Smith grubber kick, after a Jordan Abdull 40-20 put the home side in great position. Dixon added the extras, the second half was the free scoring reverse of stalemated defensive first.

Just after the hour mark Jordan Abdull chased down his own kick and grounded it after Dixon caused confusion in the KR defence. Dixon added the extra two and the Broncos had regained the lead after the earlier KR fightback.

A break by Ben Crooks should have seen him in but he ran out of steam as the London players convered back. Two tackles later the Robins spilled the ball and London breathed again.

On seventy-five Rob Butler fought off the attentions of four tacklers and somehow managed to get the ball on thr ground by the post pad for a vital try. Dixon added the extras for 26-18, the Broncos with breathing space.

With seventy-eight minutes on the clock Josh Drinkwater found the line from close and when Shaw added the extras the lead was again down to just two points, a nailbiting final ninety seconds.

When Drinkwater lost the ball in the tackle with twenty seconds remaining, London pounced on the loose ball and the Broncos held on for a fantastic win.

It was end to end stuff between two sides with everything to gain, and everything to loose. Neither side was going to die wondering and the outcome was unknown right down to the final hooter. The London Broncos have strung together three consecutive victories and in doing so have lifted themselves into tenth place, above Hull KR and the Leeds Rhinos. Danny Ward’s side will now have the belief that they will be playing their rugby in the Super League in 2020, Hull KR will be in the doldrums and fearing for their top flight future.
